Der Feueropal ist die einzige transparente Varietät der Opal-Gruppe. Seine Farbskala reicht von gelb über orange bis zu rot. Feueropale zeigen üblicherweise kein Opalisieren, werden aber im Gegensatz zu den anderen Edelopalen in den typischen Edelstein-Schliffen facettiert. Klare Feueropale ohne Einschlüsse sind ziemliche Raritäten und werden von Schmuckdesignern und Edelsteinsammlern gleichermaßen geschätzt. Wie bei allen Opaln muß jedoch berücksichtigt werden, daß auch Feueropale wasserhältig sind und nicht völlig austrocknen dürfen. Qualitäts-Vorkommen liefern USA, Mexiko, Brasilien und Australien. |
